Less than 24 hours after launching his Civic Association, Louis Weber donated $500 to iconic social club at risk of shutting its doors.
Club Espana, located on New York Avenue in the East Ward, has been a part of the Ironbound's cultural landscape for over 55 years.
Founded in 1964 by a group of Spanish immigrants who wanted to provide a place for the growing Spanish community to find jobs, gather, and celebrate their traditions, Club Espana has been a longstanding pillar of the community. They provide cultural, educational and sports programs, along with dance troupes that maintain their traditions alive and contribute to the rich cultural repertoire of the Ironbound district.
As with many of our beloved institutions ravaged by this pandemic, Club Espana has struggled to maintain their doors open. The Louis Weber Civic Association donated $500 to Club Espana, with the promise from community entrepreneurs, to match the donation.
You can donate to Club Espana on their GoFundMe page here.
